Customer Feedback on IKEA Kitchen Appliances

October 14, 2016 By Mike Toth

We asked: “What about IKEA kitchen appliances?”

A popular answer: “There aren’t any options to make them look built-in, so I didn’t consider them.”

Sure, IKEA designs their kitchen line to be practical and functional. That’s one reason why IKEA attracts so many customers – aside from the affordability, of course!

But does that mean kitchens have to look ugly? Or if not ugly, then not so darn IKEA?

More and more frequently, IKEA kitchen customers want that sleek European look of integrated appliances. They don’t want their refrigerator sticking out like a sore thumb. They want the appliances tucked away behind panels and false doors.

Why Customers Don’t Choose IKEA Dishwashers and Refrigerators

Hint: it’s not that they don’t like the appliances. Our customers really like IKEA appliances. For example, they love IKEA’s counter-depth refrigerator, and its low price even more.

The problem is that IKEA doesn’t make it easy for kitchen customers to achieve that custom, integrated look.

IKEA does offer a dishwasher panel; but just one. Many customers find that IKEA’s one-size-fits-approach doesn’t actually fit them and the kitchen design of their dreams.

IKEA refrigerators, on the other hand, come as naked as they day they were manufactured. IKEA does not offer a single panel for their refrigerators. But what IKEA kitchen customers want is to panel the front of their IKEA refrigerator and then surround it with side panels and place a wall cabinet on top.

“Is it too much to ask,” they asked, “that IKEA sell refrigerator panels that matched each door style?”

IKEA kitchen customers who are dedicated to getting that integrated look will buy the IKEA cabinet boxes – and then go so far as to order doors from a custom cabinet company just so they can have a matching panel refrigerator panel.

Wow, what a hassle!

The Final Word on IKEA Appliances

  • People in the market for a new kitchen will often not select IKEA because the lack of options for a built-in look is so disappointing.
  • IKEA misses out on potential customers just because they don’t offer a refrigerator panel.
