It’s almost as if IKEA kitchen customers design their entire kitchen around the interior organizers!
IKEA officially launches its new kitchen product line, SEKTION, in February of 2015. That’s only three weeks away.
The rumor has been that SEKTION will closely resemble METOD, IKEA Europe’s kitchen line. Because IKEA’s been so secretive about SEKTION nobody really knows what SEKTION will look like.
Our Inspired Kitchen Design blogger went undercover to learn more about SEKTION.
We asked our customers: “What style of backsplash do you like best in an IKEA kitchen?”
A popular answer: “Actually I don’t really like any of them!”
When we were designing IKEA kitchens for our customers, many of them did not want a backsplash included in their designs. Given that countertop backsplashes are a traditional element of many kitchens, we were surprised.
We learned most of our customers really don’t like the backsplash installed along the wall of many countertops. Why not?
“Because with IKEA I can have my kitchen be any color I want!”
We asked our customers: “Why did you choose IKEA for your kitchen?”
When Henry Ford began selling his Model T in the 1920s, he famously quipped “you can have any color as long as it’s black.”
Many people look at IKEA cabinets and see only 50 shades of white or beige.
They think IKEA is just as limited in options as the Model T was. Wrong.

IKEA customers prefer particleboard. But why, when so many people think plywood is better?
Don’t underestimate an IKEA kitchen customer. Sure, they like those glossy green cabinet doors, but they tend to know more about cabinet box construction and materials than you would think.

We hear this a lot when we ask IKEA kitchen customers why they chose IKEA. At first the answer just didn’t make sense. Visit any kitchen showroom and you’ll see plenty of kitchens. What was so different about IKEA?
